LiveCRM vs building it with Clay and Zapier

You can wire Clay, Zapier, Make or n8n to Salesforce or HubSpot and get an agent that writes to your CRM. You also get to build the parts that make it safe: approvals, a record of every value it changed, a way to undo a bad run, and merge logic. LiveCRM is those parts, already built, with the CRM operations on top.

What the stack does well

The do-it-yourself stack is flexible and fast to start.

  • Clay is strong at research and enrichment: spreadsheet-style tables, many data sources and an AI web research agent. Its Salesforce integration can look up, create, update and upsert records with the connecting user's permissions.
  • Zapier, Make and n8n move data between tools on triggers, and can call an AI model in the middle.
  • Approval steps exist. Zapier's human-in-the-loop step pauses a Zap for someone to approve, decline or edit. n8n can require a person to approve selected AI tool calls through Slack, email or Teams.

For a narrow job, such as enriching new leads as they arrive, this can be the right answer.

What it leaves you to build

A record of what changed. Zapier keeps run history for a limited period and n8n's default retention is short. Both are logs of runs, not the value a field held before your workflow overwrote it. Salesforce field history tracks 20 fields per object and keeps about 18 months in the interface.

A way to undo. None of these tools reverses a write. To roll back a bad run you need the prior values, captured by you, and a workflow to replay them. Merges are harder: Salesforce cannot unmerge, and HubSpot cannot undo a merge at all.

Merge and survivorship logic. Clay has no engine for finding and merging duplicate CRM records. Matching rules, master selection and per-field survivorship are yours to write.

Upkeep. Every rule lives in a workflow someone maintains. When a field is renamed or a process changes, it breaks quietly. Clay credits can also run out fast, and teams take weeks to get comfortable with it.

When building is the right call

Build it yourself when the job is narrow, the writes are low risk, and you have someone who enjoys maintaining workflows. Use LiveCRM when the writes touch records your revenue depends on, when an agent will act at volume, or when you need to show who changed what and put it back.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Clay and LiveCRM together?

Yes. Clay can research and enrich, and LiveCRM can apply changes to the CRM under approval with a full record and undo.

Does Zapier keep a history of the values it changed?

Zapier keeps run history, not the previous value of each field it wrote. Rolling a change back needs those values.
